confirmation 2 requirements
Two years in Confirmation Program:
The student must have completed two years in Confirmation Program beginning in 9th grade - 12th grade. They must also be baptized.
Regular attendance
Only three absences are allowed in Confirmation class. All others will need to be made up or repeat the class.
Baptism/ First Holy Communion certificate:
Please turn in Baptism and Holy Communion Certificate by November 2023. If the student was baptized elsewhere, you will need to call the parish where they were baptized / received Holy Communion and request a certificate to St. Columban Church Confirmation Program.
Confirmation Saint Report:
Students will research the saint they would like to be confirmed in. "A new name has often signified a drawing closer to God, as with Abram becoming Abraham..." (Genesis 17:5) By choosing a saint you have a representative in Heaven for life. When you pray for their intercession, you're asking him/her to pray for you in a special way. Due by January 15, 2024. (It will also depend on the teachers).
Mass Reflections
Each individual Mass Reflection will have a due date on it. Students must attend Mass. Students are required to attend one Stations of the Cross prayer service during Lent. Please see Mass Reflection assignment for more details.

Service Hour
Every Confirmation candidate has the responsibility to do at least 12 hours of community service. This requirement is a necessary supplement to the weekly formation classes as it allows each student to put into practice, through their actions, the role of Christ as servant. Service project are due no later than March 2024. Please see below for more details.
Sponsor Form
This form is to be filled out by the sponsor. A sponsor must be a registered and practicing Catholic parishioner, registered at a Catholic Church. A parent cannot be the sponsor of their own child. Please see all details for requirement. Due by November 2023.

Bishop Letter
Each student will write a letter to Bishop Thanh Nguyen explaining why they want to be confirmed. Each letter must include a Gospel reflection on Luke 4:16-22a. All Confirmandi should express their free will to receive the sacrament. First drafts are due December 2023 and the final draft at the end of February 2024.
Sponsor Interview:
The candidate is to interview their sponsor, fill out the interview report, and return the completed form by November 2023.
Student Interview:
The interview is designed to assess candidates’ understanding and readiness to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation. This “Pre-Confirmation Interview” will also provide the candidate with an opportunity to answer candidates’ questions and encourage them as they make their final preparations to receive the sacrament.
service project
Before making a commitment to a service project, think about the variety of ways in which you can use your talents and abilities to help others. In order to gain a better understanding of the need you are addressing, review the Corporal and Spiritual Works of Mercy and Catholic Social Teachings and pray about whether your service project lends a hand to those needs.

We offer online Sacramental Preparation Courses for Confirmation 1 and 2 every Sunday from 3:30PM-4:30PM and Monday from 6:30PM to 7:30PM. Check calendar for dates off.

Sacramental catechesis is a total process of faith development that includes growth in personal prayer, intense involvement in a faith community (which includes worship, service, and Scripture), and to deepen commitment to the Church. This catechetical process involves not only the individuals who are preparing to celebrate the Sacrament, but also their families and the entire parish community.
“Preparation for Confirmation should aim at leading the Christian toward a more intimate union with Christ and a more lively familiarity with the Holy Spirit – his actions, his gifts, and his biddings—in order to be more capable of assuming the apostolic responsibilities of Christian life. To this end catechesis for Confirmation should strive to awaken a sense of belonging to the Church of Jesus Christ, the universal Church as well as the parish community. The latter bears special responsibility for the preparation of confirmands.”
